Local Eyes photography event
We all have an image of Sydney in our mind’s eye. We all know what it looks like, how it works and how it feels. But our view of Sydney is just one perspective.
United Way 'Local Eyes' is the event that invites you to view our community through a different lens - a photographic exhibition with a difference.
Imagine what Sydney would look like through the eyes of a 12 year old boy battling to stay engaged with his family and his school.
What about a middle-aged woman who has spent the last 10 years living on the street in Woolloomooloo?
Or a visually impaired man living in a share house in Western Sydney?
These are just some of the people taking part in Local Eyes, a unique photographic exhibition created by United Way, Sydney.
Why United Way Sydney has created Local Eyes
United Way Sydney actively works to supports the universal idea - that members of a community can come together voluntarily, pool their resources and knowledge, and work together to address their most compelling human needs
The 'Local Eyes' initiative has provided a perfect opportunity for us to bring this notion to life. Individuals from our community organisations, professional & amateur volunteer photographers, corporations and their staff from throughout Sydney, amongst others have all contributed to this great initiative.
The result - the United Way 'Local Eyes' exhibition will present a snapshot in to the lives of people within the United Way community. This will be provided through a collection of photos, which highlight people, places or moments we do not usually get to see.
This collection will be exhibited at Customs House - Circular Quay, from 26th – 29th March 2008 and throughout corporate venues in Sydney.
Connecting our Corporate Partners for Community Impact
This initiative has brought together our corporate partners, community partners & indiviudals from throughout Sydney.
For our Corporate Parnters the exhibition is the perfect opportunity to engage staff, showcasing the positive outcomes that their contributions have on individuals supported by United Way's community partners.
The exhibition will also provide an opportunity to see and learn more about the Community organisations United Way supports.
Furthermore, it will provide an insight in to the lives & perspectives of some of the individuals who benefit directly from the programs run by these organisations.
