Zurich Financial Services   Fuji Xerox   Colliers International   Hawker De Havilland   Macquarie Telecom   Sydney Ports

Participation rates at United Way partners currently range from 12% to 50%. The critical success factors behind this rate are strong leadership support, strong program planning, engaging and meaningful volunteering opportunities and a “peer to peer, face to face” approach to Workplace Giving.

Zurich Financial Services has formed a partnership with United Way that incorporates all levels of the United Way partnership. Zurich has combined volunteer opportunities with Workplace Giving initiatives to reach a 12% participation rate nationally – raising over $135,000 in 2006 for community organisations. United Way provides over 20 volunteer programs per year and six “Seeing is Believing” programs to help staff understand how their work has helped communities.

“Zurich is delighted to be partnering with United Way Sydney for our national community program Community Connections. The program focuses on connecting our employees in tangible ways to their local communities through the donation of their time and money.

One of the strengths of a partnership with United Way Sydney is their ability to facilitate our engagement with a range of community organisations. This enables our employees to not only better understand some of the issues facing different sectors of our community but also the opportunity to get involved and 'make a difference' for some of these grass-root organisations - which our people get a real kick out of.”

Alice Cahill, Corporate Responsibility Manager, Zurich Financial Services

Fuji Xerox has been a long-standing United Way corporate partner with participation across eight sites nationally.

Workplace Giving program raises over $90,000 per annum which includes matching by corporate funds. In addition Fuji Xerox has integrated United Way’s “Seeing is Believing” and Corporate Connect elements into its leadership development program.

Colliers International has proved that social responsibility and community values are alive and well in the otherwise competitive property industry. They have turned their competitive drive to benefit United Way and our community partners with a fundraising program involving staff, clients and suppliers. Fund raising initiatives, along with workplace giving and matching by corporate funds have raised approx $60,000 in 2006 and participation rates for workplace giving are increasing, now at 25%. “Corporate Connect” volunteering has been important in ensuring ongoing staff engagement and is also successfully used in relationship building, both with Colliers staff and staff from their largest client.

"Colliers International are working with United Way to create a strong, dynamic and responsive support program that delivers positive and real impact in the community. I am personally committed to the success of The Community Care Program at Colliers International and invite you to join me in realising its potential."

Tony Brasier, Chairman, Colliers International

At Hawker de Havilland (Boeing), United Way has assisted in reaching a 50% participation rate through Workplace Giving. Hawker de Havilland maintains that the visible buy in from executives (who have supported extensive education and training of their champion teams) has encouraged equally high involvement from staff.

"We are delighted to be associated with United Way and applaud their efforts and commitment to those less well off in our community. In an industry that is constantly evolving in its challenges and opportunities perhaps it is all too easy to miss the greatest challenge that exists in our community. United Way is an excellent vehicle for our people to help redress directly on an ongoing basis those most in need."

David Tudehope, Executive Director, Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications

"We are excited about our partnership with United Way because it will deliver a range of opportunities for our employees to support grassroots community projects in Sydney. We like the idea that at least 90 cents in each donation dollar will reach these projects and we can interact with them to see the impact of our contribution."

Greg Martin, CEO, Sydney Ports Corporation.
